Jack, I have a manta 10 (in fact I'm using it to test right now), so I know the pain. However, I'm most excited about the emulator. It will level the playing field for people who want to help test and contribute. I'm working on making it easy to use the emulator to help write and urn tests, and the engineering team is working on making the emulator better and easier to run. They want to make it the primary way to write and run things. This should open it up to even more people, which I am very excitied about. I know it's been hard for people to help out with ubuntu touch without a device. This should make the need for a device go away.

I can't speak to specifics about why they changed supported devices, but I assume it's because the hardware has aged and is difficult to get ahold of now, while also not being representative of "current" phablet devices. I'd encourage you to check out the thread and ask your questions directly there. The engineering team should be able to speak more directly about it.

Nicholas

I mean aren't we trying to get more people to help us? This is doing exactly the opposite

I agree this is a bad move would be more support continuing with
older devices (which a lot) people still own.
