I am not sure whether Lubuntu will fix AFJ's problems as described in his orginal post. Though since he already has Ubuntu installed he can just install the lubuntu desktop to see if it is better. sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop @AFJ you might be better asking on the ubuntu users mailing list [1], but I suggest just asking help with one problem at a time, posting about multiple issues at once can mean that the important issues are lost amongst lesser ones. Also as was suggested earlier you should uses ubuntu-bug to submit bug reports on problems so that they will be seen and hopefully fixed [2].
