I hope this is the right place to reach the SRU team and to raise this
issue.
Oracle has a few requests for input on backporting features from MySQL 5.8
to 5.7. These do not fall under the existing micro-release exception for
MySQL, so we're asking now in order to get feedback from Ubuntu before we
make a decision upstream:

We would like a +1 or a -1 (or comments) from the SRU team on backporting
these before we decide what to do upstream. If you have any questions, I
