Comment #11 solved the problem for me, too. I ran into the bug
performing the following steps:

1. I upgraded Kubuntu from 14.10 to 15.04 using `sudo do-release-upgrade`.
2. I rebooted using `sudo reboot now` instead of using the K menu due to a bug 
that prevented me from rebooting via menu. According to the attached excerpt of 
mysql.err, mysqld was shutdown properly.
3. After rebooting, the crash appeared.
