Comparing pam.d data with stock I had this:

in /etc/pam.d/common-auth
-auth   optional        pam_ecryptfs.so unwrap
+auth   optional                        pam_smbpass.so migrate

 # and here are more per-package modules (the "Additional" block)
+password       optional                        pam_smbpass.so nullok 
use_authtok use_first_pass
