Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.
The smbd daemon, part of the samba package, failed to restart during the
upgrade. The provided logs don't tell why, however.
Could you please share your /etc/samba/smb.conf configuration file? It's
possible it contains incorrect options and that is what is causing the
service to fail.
