Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.
The smbd service, part of samba, is failing to start, but the logs don't
have enough detail as to why.
Could you please attach to this bug your /etc/samba/smb.conf file? It's
possible there is a configuration error and that's why the service isn't
starting.
