the /var/log/ubuntu-advantage.log file will have more details, but:

YOUR UA CREDENTIALS are in that file!

Inspect it, look for backtraces or other informative errors. If you find
nothing and feel like you want someone else to take a look, PLEASE sanitize it
before posting anything.
Could you also please show the full output of "sudo apt-get update" and
"apt-cache policy | grep esm" ?
