apt-get remove mysql-common will make sure I have to remove 43 packages:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  apache2-mpm-prefork apache2-utils apache2.2-common dolphin
  gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad kdebase-bin kdebase-data kdebase-runtime
  kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4 kdelibs-bin kdelibs5 kfind khelpcenter4 kile
  konqueror konqueror-nsplugins konsole libapache2-mod-php5 libaprutil1
  libdbd-mysql-perl libgmyth0 libkonq5 libmysqlclient15off libokularcore1
  libqt4-sql-mysql librdf0 libsoprano4 libsvn-perl libsvn1 libsvncpp1
  mysql-client-5.0 mysql-common mysql-server mysql-server-5.0
  mysql-server-core-5.0 okular okular-extra-backends php5-mysql
  python-subversion rapidsvn redland-utils soprano-daemon subversion

I'll give it a shot tomorrow in a virtual machine. I've seen in
/var/log/apt/term.log.2.gz (my oldest) that mysql-common was installed a
lot earlier than mysql-client and mysql-server. But it doesn't show up
in /var/log/dpkg.log. My best shot is that it was installed during the
installation, and somehow broken by an update.
