Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ntp
Several obsolete time servers are listed in the gnome time applet and ntpd as a result will say ntpd_initres[18862]: host name not found: clock.tricity.wsu.edu and ntpd_initres[18862]: couldn't resolve `clock.tricity.wsu.edu', giving up on it. The full list below is listed here at http://www.ntp.isc.org/bin/view/Servers/DiscontinuedStratumTwoTimeServers clock.tricity.wsu.edu constellation.ecn.uoknor.edu libra.rice.edu ntp.cmr.gov ntp.landau.ac.ru the server ntp.cox.smu.edu is listed here as obsolete. http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/NtpCoxSmuEdu These servers are listed here at http://lists.ntp.isc.org/pipermail/hackers/2003-June/000023.html scroll to the bottom. ntp.mel.nml.csiro.au ntp.per.nml.csiro.au ntp.nml.csiro.au This server ntp.shim.org I cant find any info listing it as obsolete. But dns still can't find it. http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/NtpShimOrg Please remove these servers as they are useless and unless someone checks daemon.log might not know that they don't work and they also create an undue burden on network traffic.
