Public bug reported: I got into this problem after tried to install kvm:
sudo aptitude install kvm libvirt-bin ubuntu-vm-builder bridge-utils (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Installation) After which point, the system hang and I had to reboot. Unfortunately, package manager has messed up since. Bug #273748 is pretty similar to what I have encountered here (except the module/return code).
