Public bug reported: In Kubuntu, kdm starts before ypbind, which can give failed login errors while ypbind is executed in the background.
The file /etc/init/start-ypbind.conf blocks processes that need ypbind. It contains the lines: start on (starting autofs or starting am-utils or starting gdm or starting lightdm or starting atd) Just adding "or starting kdm" fixes the problem.
