Public bug reported:

Carried out the usual security package updates through Ubuntu Xfce GUI
Package Manager. During the update procedure I noticed the update
process included a mysql-server upgrade and a notification informing
this could take some time. After two days and two nights, I realized
this was taking far longer than expected and thought something must be
wrong.

The CPU, memory and network activity was monitored using GUI System
Monitor which showed a high usage on one of the CPU cores (Intel i3 -
3.10GHz). This would change to a different core overtime.

After rebooting I logged into a terminal console and proceeded with the
command line security package update using the 'sudo apt-get update'
command, which started successfully. However at the end it did report an
issue with dpkg of mysql-server and suggested the following command to
run to resolve the issue:

dpkg --configure -a

Copious messages followed, however the following was reported:

Setting up libmysqlclient16 (5.1.63-0ubuntu0.10.04.1) ...

Will reboot as suggested
