I was about to post the following... ,---- | I don't know where it occurs, but my on my new relatively-muscular | server box running ubuntu with LVM over mdraid, disk accesses seem | awfully slow. For example, when I first click a menu in gnome, it | takes multiple, noticeable seconds for all the icons to appear in it. | | The configuration is RAID1 across two SATA hard drives. | | I'm not necessarily convinced the problem is anywhere in ubuntu, but | I'd like to know more about what's going on? `----
... but heh, I rebooted and the menus are fast now. Must've been something getting cached. I'd like to know that this machine is performing up to expectations (whatever those should be). Is there some package I can use to measure disk, cpu, fpu, etc. performance?
