Dear all, I'd like to take this opportunity to inform you all about the status of the Cluster Stack in Ubuntu Maverick.
This cycle we targeted to get the whole cluster stack package set into Main, however, yet again we've been unable to do so. The reason behind this is because of two packages that have failed MIR attempts. These packages are cluster-glue and pacemaker, and the reason behind is how libraries are packaged within those packages. We have made the efforts to get these changes and merge them with Debian/Upstream, however, it has been unsuccessful, given that they see these as too much work for a package that will disappear in the future (cluster-glue), and no need to split the other (pacemaker), given that those libraries are runtime libraries only. Furthermore, we were working on trying to get these changes in Ubuntu, however we couldn't have made them before Final Freeze. The only implication of this is that RHCS in the archives will NOT have support for pacemaker. However, we will provide a RHCS with pacemaker support in the Ubuntu HA Maintainers PPA soon, and we will address this issues early in Natty's cycle. However, not everything is sadness. As you all now from UDS-M, some services in Ubuntu were changed from using LSB init scripts to Upstart, which broke monitoring in the Cluster (Pacemaker specifically). However, this has now change. Thanks to the efforts of Senko Rasic and Ante Karamatic Pacemaker now supports the monitoring of resources that make use of Upstart!! On the other hand, DRBD kernel module has now been included in mainline kernel. This means that the drbd8 source package in the archive no longer uses DKMS to install the kernel module. Now, it only provides drbd8-utils. I think that's all. If you have any further doubts please don't doubt to contact us. -- Andres Rodriguez (RoAkSoAx) Ubuntu MOTU Developer Systems Engineer
