Correct. For reference I was able to install Natty just now in a KVM with no VGA with the following: kvm -cdrom natty-server-amd64.iso -kernel vmlinuz -initrd initrd.gz --append "console=ttyS0 priority=critical locale=en_US url=http://bit.ly/uquick" -vga none -serial stdio Note that I loop mounted the iso to extract vmlinuz and initrd.gz, which are required if you use kvm's --append.
