It really depends on which Ubuntu mailinglist you use. Some have it this way others have it the other way. Mostly it depends on the list moderators and the user demands. And it is always a discussion of some sort, where I hope this will not happen on this list. (Always the same pro and cons...) Most mailers have a button (or command) to answer to the mailing list directly. As long as I am reading the 100s of Ubuntu mailinglists I learned to like this a lot ;-).
