Colleen, I'm not an Ubuntu member, but I'll throw in my two cents. I've been around a while.
Congratulations, you have done a significant amount of the work already in having a newer package upstream. The remainder could be just as simple as asking for a sync request (check the process for people that require sponsorship below). https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SyncRequestProcess In general, the Cloud Archive doesn't like having packages that are radically different than standard Ubuntu, so the process is to get the updated package into Ubuntu and then verifying that it falls through to the Cloud Archive.
