I realize this isn't a core feature but it is occurring only on 18.04 so I'm hoping I can get some help or at least a pointer to help.
Trying to use the Puppet agent on Ubuntu 18.04 (puppet --version returns 5.4.0) with a puppet server on 16.04 (puppet --version returns 3.8.5) and getting the following: Warning: Downgrading to PSON for future requests Error: Could not request certificate: Error 400 on SERVER: The environment must be purely alphanumeric, not 'puppet-ca' 'puppet cert list' on the puppet server doesn't show a certificate request for signing. I've tried setting the environment variable to 'production' in both puppet.conf and on the command but the same error persists. I have added the customized entries from a puppet.conf on a working 16.04 system changing only the certname: server=<in this case the same IP address which works on other systems> pluginsync=true certname=system5 (the certname on the working system is 'system3') report=true I posted the issue on the Puppet mailing list - no response in 5 days. I tried back-reving to 3.8.5 but that doesn't work (unless there are some steps I must take). Any ideas or direction? Should I "bug it". Upgrading the 16.04 puppet server is a major undertaking.
