Thanks, Bryce. I might be wrong, but I think these are not duplicate bugs. I remember seeing the mysqlx error that you mentioned in a bunch of other MySQL bugs, but in this particular case there are other (strong) signs that point to a local configuration issue/inconsistency. If you look at the dpkg logs, you will notice several errors when installing other packages, for example. If I have the time later I will come back to this one and do some more digging, let's see if something else comes up.
