Dear List, thank you very much for creating and maintaining ubuntustudio! I like it very much!
I have some serious issues with the new release. Searching around, I found matching bug reports. Monitoring these reports for a while, most of them stay with importance "undecided" or "low" and status "new" or "confirmed", but nothing more. So I was wandering, how bug tracking for ubuntustudio really works? The main places for ubuntustudio bugs I could figure out are: https://bugs.launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-rt Both seem to be quite inactive?! My main issues are: * Installing openoffice with the "-rt" kernel running fails. The system freezes and recovering from the problem after a restart with "sudo dpkg --configure -a" freezes the system again. See similar reports here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/368570, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/368438. Installing openoffice with the generic kernel and switching back to "-rt" worked for me. * (Perhaps) related to the previous issue: The system freezes if running with the "-rt" kernel only a few minutes after login. It seems to be independent on the current action, which where e.g. running synaptics, surfing the web or editing a document with openoffice. The sytem shows a freezed gnome screen, but does not react to anything (keayboard, ping or ssh login from remote), only to the power button. After poweroff and restart, I'm not able to find any bug/error/kernel panic message in /var/log. But I'm not a kernel hacker and don't know where to lock exactly. The rt-kernel is version 2.6.28.3.1 while most of the other kernels (generic, server, ...) are 2.6.28.11.15. Will there be rt-kernel updates in the near future, to catch up with the development of the normal release or not? The system I'm running jaunty on is a thinkpad T60, which previously was running absolutely stable under suse 10.2 and ubuntustudio 7.10 without any kernel problems. Also I updated the bios recently without any positive effect. So I would be very interested on how bug reporting and fixing for ubuntustudio works exactly and what is the chance to get e.g. the above bugs fixed. Thanks you for your time and any comments!
