If we're going to push for having a -lowlatency kernel flavour in Natty, it would be good to know if anyone is using it today, and what experiences you have of it. To summarise, you shouldn't need to be in the audio group to get access to the audio device(s), since that is handled via console-kit. Nevertheless, there is still the jackd configuration issue, that (optionally - IIRC), sets real-time privileges to everyone in the audio group. Also, there are some guides out there telling you to do the same in /etc/security/limits.conf. So for this purpose, some people might want to be in the audio group. However - although convenient in some cases, I don't think that it is a good idea in the long run, and it might be addressed in Natty, we'll discuss this in the UDS-N session.
