It depends on the hardware used for audio... number of tracks, how it connects to the computer, etc. I can not run my internal card without xruns at any latency, but with my USB IF (two channels only) I can run with a lower latency than my internal card can even start with and have no xruns with the CPU running half speed. Ralph has a multi track card that can have at least 8 channels i/o (ADAT IF if I remember correctly) and he is using it harder than I tend to use mine.
