Kino is doing this working perfectly.

you open your source video with kino, in DV or another type of video, kino
should convert it into DV, you edit your video, it's very simple with kino, and
at the end, with the export tab you can encode your it into various format,
mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4 as divX or Xvid, flv, ogg theora/vorbis, wmv.

For you tube, google video, the most simple is to encode it into divX or mpeg4,
Xvid.
