Hello Christopher, In order to get desktop effects running, I had to install packages, compiz and xserver-xgl. Also since I have an ATI video-card I made a minor change in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. It would be really easy if you had internet connection on that PC, but without it, I believe you have to find the suitable deb packages or compile them from source.
