As a packager for ubuntu, I would advise against using checkinstall, as it
doesn't tend to honour a few things that
need to be done when building debs.
As it is, the latest gimp has been uploaded to gutsy and should be available
shortly.
I would strongly advise everybody to lease seek out prebuilt debs before you
consider building from source, or even
using something like checkinstall. if you do end up building from source,
please ensure that previous versions of the
package in question are not on your system, so there are no file conflicts.
