I have had great results with my edirol UA-25.<http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/a165447.html> It is USB based, Jack recognized it instantly, all I had to do was select it in JACK's setup page. It is usb powered so its totally portable; it has two channels in and two channels out. I spent about US$160 on mine, in an ebay auction.
