I was going to say the same thing with respect to the network device as well - most certainly a module issue between the kernels. Check the difference between the loaded kernels in the generic and the rt.
As for the Tascam, can't speak directly to that - I don't own one... I still have yet to try to get the M-Audio Firewire 410 working (haven't tried yet - that may be a Christmas project)...
