i also have the fast track pro interface. It has been a while ago (ca. 1 year) when i tried to get it running with ardour etc. I was facing the same problems. It didn't work flawless. After Trial and error i think one mode worked okay, it was 48 kHz sampling rate, i guess. I can't remember, if I managed both recording and playback at the same time without drop-outs. But I know the result wasn't quite satisfying. I will definitely stay tuned to this issue and keep on trying as time permits. Please let me and other ubuntu-studio-users know, what you bring to light.
