My way to install JDK is:

$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin
$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre (already installed)
$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk

$ export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
$ export PATH="$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin"
$ export JRE_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre

$ java -version
is fine

$ javac -version
hangs my computer

I used to install JDK (the same way) in UStudio 8.04, and everything was fine.
I never tested UStudio 8.10. Something happened with rt-kernel in this
timeline...

Something similar was reported in Launchpad: "Kernel 2.6.28-3.12-rt crashes
when running Sun Java real-time system"

Thanks,
Joan Quintana
