I'm happy with my Roland Edirol UA-25EX. I'm interested in both MIDI and audio. 
In Ubuntu Studio 8.04 there was a patch for the kernel, but fortunately this is 
not necessary in US 9.04. Almost everything explained for Edirol UA-25 could be 
applied for Edirol UA-25EX. Read ALSA wiki pages. Is necessary to tweak 
.soundrc file if you use just one mic to record an audio file.
