Did you install Ubuntu Studio 10.04? Or is it Ubuntu 10.04? Or did you start with a standard, vanilla Ubuntu installation and add Ubuntu Studio packages? These questions may have a significant impact on where any problems might lie. When you say you have no video, do you mean you cannot play DVD's? The monitor does work? You do not have any applications for edit video? When Ubuntu boots, does it play a start up sound? Does it make "clicking" sounds when you pick things, start applications or close applications? Are you only missing sound when you play media (i.e. movies or music)? Have you looked at the PulseAudio Preferences (Applications -> Sound and Video -> PulseAudio Preferences)? You might find that one of the audio devices is muted or that an incorrect device is selected if you have multiple audio devices. I have onboard sound, a SBLive card, and a delta44...invariably the normal, default audio is selected to the onboard sound rather than my SBLive. Now to what Asmo was saying about 10.10 i386 beta. Asmo was testing applications that are not included by default in the beta release of Ubuntu Studio 10.10 on an i386 machine (not a 64 bit machine). Updating your system will only install updated versions of the same applications that are already on your computer. These applications are primarily used for editing video and can installed with either a package manager (Synaptic or Ubuntu Software Center) or via command lines in a terminal, ala 'sudo apt-get install packagename' I hope this provides some help or direction.
