Thanks, I went to http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1664134.html and started following its instructions
I got as far as: 1. Installation Synaptic: Start Synaptic System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager Add the repository Settings tab > Repositories > Other Software > Add Type: ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer > Add Source > Close Reload Install Grub Customizer 'Quick-search' > type "grub-customizer" > Select "grub-customizer" in lower panel. But it said: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/danielrichter2007/grub-customize/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/danielrichter2007/grub-customize/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found which I do not understand and time has run out for this little project today, i’ve got too many other things to do today to search for answers to this today. I hope that if I look again in a few weeks there’ll be something in the Ubuntu software centre. thanks [george] From: [email protected] Sent: Monday, April 30, 2012 5:09 PM To: Ubuntu Studio Users Help and Discussion Subject: Re: grub boot order Hello George, maybe this link can help: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1664134.html (grub customizer) Best regards, Stefan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Von: george dicegeorge <[email protected]> An: Ubuntu Studio Users Help and Discussion <[email protected]> Gesendet: 15:32 Montag, 30.April 2012 Betreff: Re: grub boot order Thanks Ralf but Neither of those files exist! On boot it says: Grub v 1.99-21ubuntu3 There is a file boot/grub/grub.cfg which begins: ####################### # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then set have_grubenv=true load_env fi set default="0" ################## I tried editing it in gedit to change this default, but its readonly and i dont know enough about terminal. Is there a GUI somewhere to tweak these things? I seem to remember something called ubuntu-tweak, but the version on my ubuntu10.04 doesnt seem to do Grub. ? Anyway, if you use Grub2 edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg and if you use GRUB (Legacy) edit /boot/grub/menu.lst. *?* - Ralf -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list [email protected] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list [email protected] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list [email protected] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users
