I don't know "Software Center", Synaptic also a GUI (perhaps the same
GUI) does provide an option to show what the provided files are named
and where they should be installed, but it might conflict with a
dpkg-divert --rename --add <foo>.

sudo synaptic

It has got an option to show the files of the package and where they
should be installed, but I don't know if a dpkg-divert has got impact to
this information.

IIRC searching can be done by

sudo find / -name <application's filename>

but there perhaps is a better way to use find or another command.
