This works for me. What version of Terminal did you install? Perhaps
you're using one not from the Ubuntu repositories?

Bug description:
My password fails every time I try $ sudo -i from the terminal activity.  There 
is not warning that this operation is not permitted, it just gives an 
authentication error even though the password was correctly entered.
