I agree, and that's why Launchpad doesn't do that. It actually does the exact opposite whenever possible. With that in mind, I believe there's nothing to remedy. It specifically preserves the header comment from the PO file that was initially imported, exactly for this reason. But, sometimes a PO file was *first* created in Launchpad before it ever existed upstream, and such files have this copyright notice. As for actual translation credits in messages like "translator-credits" or "Your names" (KDE credits message), we've had to automate that since people were removing upstream credits without realizing that. So, now such messages are automatically extended with clearly marked Launchpad contributors, but credits as imported from upstream remain in. Hopefully this clarifies some things.
