That's a good point. I think it is not, as I believe strings in the checkbox text files are loaded from the .mo files (at least the files in /usr/share/checkbox/jobs/ contain no translations). Marc, do those translations get loaded from the .mo files (i.e. checkbox can use language packs), or do they need to be merged from the .po files into the resulting .txt files at build time?
