I periodically encounter a sudden shut down of the operating system.
According to the system log, it is due to a signal to the kernel that
a critical temperature of 102C has been reached.
I ssume this signal comes from the ACPI daemon in some way.

That does not occur while using Windows nor older versions of the
kernel so I assume it is a result of the 2.6.x kernel version. A bogus
figure may be provided to the kernel according to reports of similar
problems.

How can this best be remedied using Ubuntu and its underlying software?
Using latest version 5.04 - which otherwise works a wonder on my 5
year old Dell Latitude C810 P3 with little memory or disk space. Well
done on a fine and smooth distro.

Thanks, Marc Goblot
