Right thanks. I was just following what I thought was a useful tutorial
on installing firestarter on Ubuntu
(http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=121596). In that
tutorial they enabled ICMP filtering. But I guess a mistake according to
you..
I'll disable it.

That's hardly surprising...
ICMP stands for "Internet *Control* Messaging Protocol" and funnily
enough stuff breaks when idiots^W people block it.
