Just to mention I have sent (unrequested) emails to the editorial staff of newspapers (note1) requesting more features on computers etc, and giving a short item on free and open source software, with Ubuntu also mentioned, in context.
I led with the idea of free software - after a recent contact with Chris Warburton on the marketing list, because I am persuaded that incoming users are likely to be attracted initially by 'free' rather than esoteric debate about society or human rights. I also think that use of open source in windows is another possible route fro introduction to greater computing sanity. In this area I am 'competing' for interest from people who can probably get most of their software free but not legally perhaps.
