There are no open ports during install unlike windows. Once installed you can setup a firewall "sudo apt-get install firestarter", which is the best thing to do. Viruses are neigh on unheard of in Linux. Yes they do exist, but there are 200+ for Linux and how many 1000's for windows. You can install clamtk in order to check for viruses.
