I forgot to add this further info:
I cannot access the music folder or its subfolders and files unless I
become root (sudo su). I can then see the folders and files. This is
the output of stat on the top level folder:

I'd be glad of advice about recovering access to the folder tree and
files, as I'm fearful of making matters worse!
