Obviously there is still something causing a problem there. You say you changed the driver from "vesa" to nv? First thing - did you make sure to include the quote marks - i.e "nv" rather than just nv? I would only make one change at a time - then you can see if it works or not. If you did use the quote marks, then perhaps we need to see what the log is telling you. A log is saved each time X starts (or doesn't start) in /var/log/Xorg.0.log In there, at the bottom will be the reason it cannot start X for you. If you have a look using nano again - nano /var/log/Xorg.0.log and note down the reason it gives for failing to start. Then note it down in a mail to the list.
