Has anyone else had problems with the upgrade to Gutsy? Now that's an overly vague start, I'll narrow things down a little :)
I have 5 packages that are failing to install properly. These are acpid, ubuntu-desktop, acpi-support, powermanagement-interface and xubuntu-desktop. The basic problem seems to come down to the fact that acpid is failing to install properly, and the others fail to configure because of this. On investigation it appears that the acpid package is failing to install because it fails to start acpid. This doesn't entirely make sense since acpid runs quite happily, and if I run 'invoke-rd.d acpid start' it works without problems (obviously unless it is already running!). I have tryed running dkpg-reconigure both with and without acpid running, and I have also tried using 'aptitude reinstall acpid' with and without acpid running. So far nothing. There is nothing logged in the /var/log/acpid log that is of any help although I do get this repeated practically constantly: [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] received event "processor CPU0 00000080 00000000" [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] notifying client 4511[107:114] [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] notifying client 4614[0:0] [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] completed event "processor CPU0 00000080 00000000" [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] received event "processor CPU0 00000081 00000000" [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] notifying client 4511[107:114] [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] notifying client 4614[0:0] [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] completed event "processor CPU0 00000081 00000000" [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] received event "ac_adapter AC 00000080 00000000" [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] notifying client 4511[107:114] [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] notifying client 4614[0:0] [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] executing action "/etc/acpi/power.sh" [Mon Oct 22 12:19:07 2007] BEGIN HANDLER MESSAGES [Mon Oct 22 12:19:08 2007] END HANDLER MESSAGES [Mon Oct 22 12:19:08 2007] action exited with status 0 [Mon Oct 22 12:19:08 2007] completed event "ac_adapter AC 00000080 00000000" To add a bit more history to this, I am running on a Compaq Evo N160 laptop, not not state of the art, and during the upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 from CD I had to leave the machine to get on with it. When I returned xscreensaver had cut in, so I had to open up separate console (ctrl-alt-f2), login and kill the process. From there I could go no further with aptitude or synaptic since there was no network (odd since I was using the CD) and had to reboot. On rebooting I had the errror "internal error - failed to initialise HAL!" once I had logged into my desktop XFCE. I then tried 'aptitude safe-upgrade' from the CLI. This upgraded one package, removed 16 and configured a load (I've not counted, but a couple of screenfulls, and I do have a record of them - one of which was acpid). This is pretty much where I've go to since the same 5 packages failed. I'm still digging, but wondered whether anyone had an insight that may save me some time :) -- Paul Tansom | Aptanet Ltd. | http://www.aptanet.com/ | 023 9238 0001 ====================================================================== Registered in England | Company No: 4905028 | Registered Office: Crawford House, Hambledon Road, Denmead, Waterlooville, Hants, PO7 6NU -- [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
