Hmmm... sounds like Windows has somehow become corrupted. I doubt this is due to installing Edubuntu, but rather something that's gone wrong in Windows (there are so many things, after all)... assuming it's a licensed copy of Windows I'd get them to sort it... they are, after all, the company that 75% of the world appears to trust with their data...
