You don't need to with mplayer, you can add the -dumpstream option and it will
dump the content to a file called stream.dump rather than display it.
Like so (copy/paste this into your terminal one line at a time):
mplayer -dumpstream 'rtsp://rm-acl.bbc.co.uk/news/media_acl/mps/fix/news/busi'\
'ness/video/138000/bb/138961_16x9_bb.rm?title="BBC"&author="BBC"©right="('\
'C)British Broadcasting Corporation"'
Just rename the file to whatever.rm and all is well.
