Just in case anyone ends up finding this discussion with a similar question. I found a PCI-E 3ware card here: http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=8852&source=gbaseuk¤cy=GBP It's called the 9650SE-2LP, and is just over a hundred quid (plus VAT). According to this KB article http://www.3ware.com/KB/article.aspx?id=14546 The 9650SE should be supported out of the box with Hardy as Hardy is running a 2.6.24 kernel and 3ware drivers supporting that model are included in kernels 2.6.23 and later. If i decide to go down the hardware RAID route then I think that'd probably the card to use.
