I said I update this thread.  I'm afraid I didn't try nfs, as the 
uncertainty of success put me off;  and the jump drive solution works 
OK, and is easy to do.  I'm using a jump drive with a volume label, so 
it's easier to write the FF3 profile.ini file on each machine.
