In reply to multiple posts... 1. I use the dvd drive allot, I view/burn many dvd's and if it is going to re-insert it on eject then not on. 2. I still have another 2 machines running with 8.04 (xbuntu) and 8.10 (with some issues) but this is my main pc and the issues I have had since upgrading on Thursday/Friday mean that I need a more stable OS. So far today I have tried (via live cd's) another 7 distro's and at the moment I have installed a x86 version of Mint (another 'buntu off shoot) , one of the main reasons for dropping x64 version was when ever I wanted to install something not in the repo's I HAD to compile it and usually there were issues, at least with the x86 version I have a chance to find a .deb file, or the compilation will succeed. (I have no problems with compiling the s/w but when there is cast issues I don't have the patience to fix them anymore. When I started coding 30 years ago this wasn't a problem ;-) but I haven't really done any programming in the past 8 years.) As a developer I believe that the beta testing is for getting rid of issues like this, One of the reasons I left M$ OS's behind was the issues in Vi$ta, after spending 10 years supporting M$ os's I had enough when I would switch on the pc and not have any networking... I then switched to Ubuntu and have mostly been pleased with it since then. 3. the screen saver issue, I don't know what is causing it, I have disabled the SS and so far it is behaving, the video card on that pc is the intel 915 onboard (so far my only pc running 8.10)
I may come back in a month or so and see if the issues have been fixed. As to reading the release notes, who these days RTFM's? K -- [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
