I'd just like to me too on this. I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1420 that came with Ubuntu and I'm running 32bit 8.10 now.
Things seem better but still flaky. I should get to the bottom of it one day really. I have a desktop that runs Mythbuntu 8.10 and that doens't seem to have much in the way of sound trouble going from flash in firefox (for iPlayer and youtube, etc) to MythTV. It seems to be more of a problem when I come out of suspend. It just hasn't annoyed me enough to really get down and diagnose it though. Thanks for the fuser tips. I'll give them a try and see what is going on. I do wonder if part of my trouble is that I upgraded rather than re-installed. I can't get PidginIM to work with gtalk or AIM either, but that should be another post.
